Features
Thanks to its exclusive optimization treatment, the CeramicSpeed Ultrafast Racing chain saves you watts and improves your performance with unparalleled free speed and low friction. Our ultrafast racing chains are carefully selected from high-quality suppliers and hand-optimized in Denmark.
This ultra-fast chain has been optimized for KMC 11-speed compatibility, to increase the efficiency of the entire drivetrain.
UFO CeramicSpeed racing chains can save you 2-5 watts over a 600km/370mile distance. Apply CeramicSpeed UFO Drip after 600km to maintain peak chain optimization throughout the life of the chain.
Please note that the UFO treatment is not optimized for wet and muddy conditions, which could cause corrosion on the chain. More information on this can be found in the maintenance sheet.

CeramicSpeed uses high-end brand chains that are subjected to an optimization treatment. CeramicSpeed UFO chains go through a multi-step process, which involves polishing, cleaning, and applying two coats of treatment to achieve the most efficient chain possible. The UltraFast optimization process is not highly technical, but it is time-consuming.
The wax blend used in the optimization of the ultra-fast chains was discovered through intensive testing to find the fastest base. Subsequently, the base was optimized to achieve the lowest friction levels on the test rig. After further testing and multiple ratios of additives to base, the most efficient optimization formula was identified. CeramicSpeed started from the initial formula of the UltraFast optimization process and incorporated a couple of improvements in addition to the traditional treatment, for better results.
The CeramicSpeed UFO Chain is a racing chain, developed with the aim of offering unrivalled performance and will perform optimally for approximately 600 km/370 miles or potentially more in dry, clean conditions. After this, the watts saved start to decrease however, your used chain will still show traces of optimization and will perform better than a normal chain. Maintaining and oiling your used chain with a wax-based lubricant with Teflon® will extend the life of your chain, saving fewer watts than optimized, while still remaining above the level of a new standard chain. CeramicSpeed recommends the use of UFO Drip Chain Coating for maintenance work.
The optimization process
Optimizing a UFO CeramicSpeed chain is a multi-step process that begins with a polishing method of the link's sliding surfaces, removing friction-producing surfaces such as roughness and manufacturing imperfections. The chain is followed by a cleaning routine to completely remove inefficient factory lubricant and friction-producing contaminants introduced during the manufacturing process. The next steps require infusing the chain at optimal temperatures with the optimization mixture. For the final stage, Teflon® powder is applied to the chain. This entire process allows the sliding surfaces of a UFO CeramicSpeed ultra-fast chain to have distinct lubricating layers that work together as a system for the highest chain efficiency available.
The test results above show the performance of UFO CeramicSpeed racing chains compared to other treated chain products. The test was performed on the Endurance Machine in combination with the Full Tension Tester. The results show that the CeramicSpeed UFO Racing Chain is the fastest chain – even over time – supported by a thorough testing protocol. Our data shows consistent/stable performance for min. 600 km
Goal
The goal of the "Chain Efficiency Test Protocol: Endurance" is to analyze the friction losses of a chain over a specified time or distance interval, under clean laboratory conditions.
Background
Friction Facts, CeramicSpeed’s dedicated drivetrain testing laboratory, has performed extensive chain efficiency tests on drip-drip lubricants and factory-tuned chains.
While these specific tests are very useful for determining initial friction loss levels, they provide no indicator of how the chain lube (or coating or tuning) will perform from a longevity standpoint. From this perspective, the Chain Efficiency Endurance Test provides data on both the initial friction loss values and the lubricant loss values over time/distance.
It should be noted that this endurance test is performed in a laboratory under clean conditions. It is recognized that this test may not be representative of actual external conditions. However, by not including the variable of contaminants, the test analyzes the true nature of a lubricant and its chemical structure to withstand the mechanical stresses of a fully loaded transmission over time.
Friction Facts performs both laboratory and road chain lubricant contamination tests, which are separate and different test protocols.
Chain Efficiency Endurance Test Protocol
Preparation
Typically, a single chain is used for this test.
If a factory-treated chain, such as a UFO Racing chain, which is pre-treated with an optimization treatment from the factory, is being tested, the manufacturer's initial break-in instructions are followed, if applicable.
If the test object is a drip lubricant, a pristine but well-broken chain is used. Breaking in a chain before testing removes the variable of decreasing chain friction due to self-polishing during break-in, which would influence lubricant effectiveness results. The drip lubricant is applied to the cleaned chain according to the manufacturer's instructions. Additionally, any additional processes are followed according to the instructions, such as drying time, cleaning, layering, etc. It should be noted that Friction Facts uses a 3-step ultrasonic solvent cleaning process to ensure the test chain is completely stripped before lubricant application.
test
The chain is placed on the high-precision chain efficiency tester and loaded accordingly to simulate 250W of rider power. Learn more about setting up the Chain Efficiency Tester.
The zero'd Tester is turned on and set to a cadence of 95 rpm.
The tester can run for about 5 minutes or until the chain friction has stabilized. Some lubricants/optimizations require a longer stabilization period, up to 15-20 minutes.
After stabilization, the data point is acquired and documented.
The chain is then moved to the Endurance Machine. This machine differs from the Chain Efficiency Tester in that it is designed to represent the drivetrain of a real bicycle and does not provide friction measurements. The Endurance Machine simply subjects the chain to the rigors of a real-world drivetrain at a given load and rpm, including cross-chaining and various rear derailleur configurations, if applicable to the specific test. The Endurance Machine is typically set to an output of 250W and 95RPM.
The chain is run on the Endurance Tester for a certain period of time. Typically, 30-minute intervals are used.
After being run on the Endurance Tester, the chain is removed and placed on the Chain Efficiency Tester for one minute, for high-precision friction measurement.
The process is repeated; The chain runs over the Endurance Tester for 30 minutes, then the friction is measured by the Chain Efficiency Tester until the desired total test duration is reached.
For example, in a 4-hour endurance test, the process will be repeated 8 times, providing 9 friction data points over the 4 hours.
The data is typically plotted on a graph with friction vs. duration axes.
INSTALLATION:
Installing your new optimized chain is no different than installing any other chain.
Please note that the chain is coated with Teflon® powder, which may be released when removed from the bag. Use the glove set provided in the package and make sure to cover the floor when installing the CeramicSpeed UFO racing chain. Always connect the chain with the connecting link provided. Reusing the connection link is not recommended. To install the chain you need a chain tool. Shorten the chain to the optimal length.
When cutting the chain with the chain tool, remember that the cut must be made so that the ends of the chain are both inside plates. Attach the two pieces of the connecting link where the connecting rivet matches the hole in the connecting plate, then pull the chain to activate the lock.
