The new Fulcrum Speed 42 is Fulcrum's step towards a new era and dimension, the result of the fundamental synergy between form and function: Form, Function, Fulcrum.
An evolution without compromise: the new rims - higher, wider, lighter and more aerodynamic - the new hubs and the new spokes come together in a perfect wheel system.
The new wider rims, paired with 28mm tyres, provide an uncompromising level of performance, with optimal aerodynamic penetration, rolling resistance and comfort.
The rim is constructed with resins and fibers made to Fulcrum specifications where, unlike previous versions, we use a new composite mix of FF100 high modulus unidirectional fibers for the Speed 42. Through numerous experiments we have achieved the perfect mix of fibers, which together with their correct layup and extremely precise control of the resin, allows us to create a product that works in the right range of elasticity, guaranteeing specific hors category performance and a superior riding feel.
The new wider rims, paired with 28mm tyres, provide an uncompromising level of performance, with optimal aerodynamic penetration, rolling resistance and comfort. The average aerodynamic advantage, measured in the wind tunnel with a headwind, was increased by 10% compared to a rim with an internal rim width of 19 mm. Despite the higher profile, handling has been significantly improved. Fulcrum carried out a specific research project to define a formula that took into account the energy dissipated by the wheel during changes of direction and the flexural deformation based on roll and lean. The measured data confirmed that the new Speed has seen an improvement of up to 17% compared to the previous generation.
The inner rim channel is free of holes thanks to our MOMAG assembly technology, which allows for a 2-WAY FIT™ tubeless rim, eliminating the need for tubeless rim tape. The presence of a traditional hook ensures maximum compatibility with all standard and tubeless inner tubes on the market and maximum safety for motorcyclists. The absence of holes in the rim channel allows for the same rigidity along the entire perimeter and greater impact resistance. This is also supported by the nipple holes, which are created in the mold, without having to drill holes in the rim like traditional wheels, which weaken the structure by cutting the carbon fiber.
The bearings used in the Speed 42 and 57 are cup and cone type and use the USB™ (Ceramic Ultra Smooth Bearings) system which provides unparalleled levels of smoothness.
The hub system uses an aircraft-grade aluminum axle, which allows it to work with centesimal tolerances ensuring performance and durability.
Fulcrum wheels are designed for a specific use and function and therefore do not include additional adapters or spacers to use with the axle, as often found in other products. This ensures an extremely solid system that always works in perfect alignment.
The freewheel ratchet system has been strengthened and increased in size so that it now accommodates 36 teeth. The wheel is available with Campagnolo N3W, Shimano HG and Sram XDR freehub bodies.
